What to expect in Mantra Sadhana

Many people chant various mantras with the intention of mantra siddhi and acquiring supernatural power. We should remember that mantra siddhi or the powers mentioned in scriptures are very difficult to achieve and there is no guarantee that it would happen. To make it more clear Mantra siddhi/powers are very rare events that can happen.

We see people chanting 10 lakhs, 20 lakhs count of the mantra and still there is no marked change in them. The repetition in these cases are usually mechanical and without any concentration on the mantra. The point is not the count of mantra but the quality of it. We can see people who have recited Shodashi mantra for few thousand times the mantra has gone Ajapa for them (Ajapaa is the state where the mantra is absorbed into your manas chakra and chanting becomes continuous throughout life). Here for these people the intensity of the practice for these few thousand times was far superior than people who have completed lakhs are chants.

Then what is use of mantra chanting is the question. Mantra happens to provide two major benefits for a person who chants it correctly. Firstly if one chants mantra correctly all his focus would be on the mantra and other thoughts vanishes, by this way a person becomes thought free, because of this the mind is purified and only in the purified mind the realization of the greatest truth happens (realization of the Self), second benefit of chanting a mantra is more for material life where it acts as a powerful affirmation making suitable modifications in the mind to get the desired results.

So how does the mantra work, each and every letters in mantras activates or creates vibrations at certain energy points and parts of the body. So when a Guru (Self realized person) gives a mantra to a person he would give that in such a way that the mantra is conducive for that person. Now when one chants the mantra the various parts of the body gets vibrated and energized giving rise to psychophysical changes. This starts getting absorbed within the body over a period of time and brings about changes in the mind. The mind gets purified in this way and makes it thought free. It is at this time the intuitive ability of person shines, meaning when the mind is purified the intellect shines in the light of the Self and it is at this time that some get some clairvoyant abilities (sort of siddhis). At this time it is very important that these gifts are shunned away as this will become an impediment for the ultimate goal. People who get absorbed into such abilities lose their purity of mind and again fall back into life problems. Purity of the mind is not the ultimate as it a state which helps us to find the ultimate truth. So this state is ever oscillating and not permanent. Only when the person realizes the truth he is firmly fixed in it and does not fall down, up to that stage is always a struggle.

Now how does one know that the mantra is working for him or not would be the question? This simple to answer because when a person chants a particular mantra usually he experiences happiness, the happiness that is being referred here is more to do with internal happiness that one experiences when or after he chants it. Otherwise he can experience small changes around him which is either good or bad. If the effects are bad then there is a need to change the mantra, if he feels unhappy/uneasy etc then it needs to be stopped. Usually when a person completes around 10,000 chants he starts experiencing the effect of the mantra and these changes are more subtle in nature which usually brings about a shift in the mindset.     

To continue further it becomes important that how one should chant the mantra, how many times does one should chant and how to make the chanting process more effective. So it is always preferable that the chanting should be done loudly for few days after initiation to become familiar with the mantra and its pronunciation. Once he/she is comfortable with the mantra he should proceed with mental chanting. Mental chanting is the best way to chant the mantra and benefit of this method is that one can chant it anytime and anywhere without any restrictions. The count for mantra japa is not important but quality of chant is more important even if a person chants 30 times in 20 minutes the focus on those 30 times should be absolute (as much possible). It is usually preferred that a person chants for minimum 20 mins a day to make it more effective. Fixing a schedule is very useful as chanting in same time everyday adjusts the body and mind to respond to the chanting better and changes can be seen much faster. Also aligning the breath with mantra is an advantage as this brings about better absorption of the mantra into the mind.

So ideally a person should sit erect, perform pranayama (nadi shodana) for 10 mins and chant the mantra by focusing on the Ajna chakra (third eye chakra) for 20 - 30 mins. When this done correctly the mind becomes still without thoughts and getting into Turya state becomes easier.

Usually the mantra of Ista devata/ Kula devata is conducive of a person; if the person is genuinely attracted to a particular deity or mantra that mantra will usually be beneficial for him/her. It is always better to search for a Guru and get initiated into a mantra than chanting by ourselves, as pronunciation and intricacies of the mantra can be explained by the Guru proper to reap benefit. The reason why Guru is important is that wrong initiation, chanting bija mantras incorrectly or chanting incompatible mantras will affect the person adversely.

If you do not find any Guru at all you can Self initiate which should be last resort.

To explain in nut shell, Mantra siddhi is very difficult to achieve, mantra is meant to protect and purify the mind which forms the basis for realization.

Understanding Who Am I

When any thought arises, say that I want money. The first thing that we understand that, I want money. So if we analyze this further. This thought arises in my mind and then it proceeds to our intellect, Consciousness and finally ego to act on the same.

If, we go in the reverse order.  We can understand the Ego is acting based on the input from consciousness and it from the intellect and finally intellect is influenced by Mind where the thoughts are created.

Hence the source of all thoughts is our mind; it is here where we get information from the sensory organs to the mind and this mind creates thoughts. Mind and thoughts are the same as mind exists only for the sole purpose of creating thoughts.

Then further when we try to understand why are these thoughts created, we realize that these thoughts are created for me. Meaning the mind thinks “I need money”.

Who is this “I”, that the mind is thinking about? Mind usually associates its thoughts to the physical body and hence it thinks that “I - refers to the physical body”. But when the mind is made thoughtless or when we do not create thoughts in our mind then for the mind this body will not exist, but even at that time there is awareness in us. What is this awareness? This awareness is beyond the body as there are no thoughts, since thoughts are created when we interact with the external world. Further in this situation when the mind quiet and if it questions “Who am I”, then mind cannot associate ‘I’ to the physical body or even the mind (as it is quieted), as mind itself does not exist as there are no thoughts. Then who is this ‘I’? When mind is transcended by this way, then what is left? After this stage only awareness exists in our mind. What is this awareness and how does this feel? Will be the question at this point; is this the Brahman that we talk about?

How can I say this as I have not reached this stage of thoughtlessness; to achieve this stage meditation and protecting the mind is a very important requirement; During meditation mind can be made thoughtless, and once thoughtless we become aware of the emptiness due to the lack of thoughts.

These my understanding based on Guruji's teachings. Any mistakes is solely mine for lack of understanding

Importance of Praying to Family Deity

This is the on of the three articles that I will write about importance of praying to Family deity, Grama devata (deity of the area that you reside at) and Ancestors (Pitru's)

This article deals about family deity.

It is always important that we pray to our family deity as this is the deity that will look after us at the times of trouble.

Family deities are really important as they usually guard us from unforeseeable problems and also protects us from severe karmic debts.

If a person is born under the family where the deity is Shiva, it means that the natural protector of that family is Lord Shiva and praying to Lord Shiva will help them to get over the problems of day today life

It is important to understand that Family deity are the first source for protection for us, it protects us from many problems be it physical or psychics. It safe guards people from negative energies.

It is easy to please our family deity than any other deities. As we are born in that clan/family of the deity.

Usually families have 2 family deities one male and other female. It is important we pray to both the deities, but if you want to take up any sadhana/anustana etc, it is much quicker to female deity of the family.

Annual fire sacrifices (homam) to our family deity will help the family in ensuring the grace and protection of the deity.

It is always good to take the name of our family deity before we do any activity, this if done with belief and trust on the deity will always ensure grace of the Deity

Any spiritual progress will depend on the grace of the family deity, if the person does not have the grace of the deity he cannot progress spiritually.

That's the reason why our family members insist us to pray to our family deity.

It is interesting to note that when Black magic is performed on a person firstly the tantrics ties the family deity and only then they go ahead with abhichara (black magic)

But if proper prayers are offered to the family deity from the beginning, the deity will protect us even from these issues or will guide us to overcome the problems

Chanting of family deities name is the best practice that one can adopt as this will ensure grace of the God and assures both material and spiritual growth.

Rare Rama Mantra - for all that one needs

The above mantra is one of rare one and according to texts this mantra has the power to grant 4 purusharthas (Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha)

It is said that great sages of ancient lore have used this mantra for attaining spiritual bliss and this mantra is said to confer child for childless couples.

It endows the person with knowledge, wealth, righteousness and a sense of detachment from unnecessary worldly ties

It is also said that this mantra should be taken from a guru and success can be achieved only through initiation.

In the present world getting an accomplished Guru is very difficult. So what I suggest is that write down the mantra a sheet of copper (used for yantra) or on paper and place it next to the picture or idol f Lord Shri Rama. Perform suitable prayer to this mantra and idol by offering Incense, Camphor and offer food to the God.

Later visualize that you are getting initiated to this mantra from the Lord Shri Rama itself, by this way you are considering the Lord to be your Guru.

Start chanting this mantra daily for 1000 times without breaks in-between.

Please note that lord Rama is a Great god who upholds Dharma, So as you progress with this sadhana you will put into situations where you will have moral dilemma on doing what is right. Please be true to yourself and be righteous as this will be test of your devotion to the lord.

Ideally Rama mantras needs to be chanted 1 million times to reap its full benefit but you can start seeing changes once you complete 15000 chants of the above mantra.

Sri Vidya Ganeshwari Mantra for Success, Prosperity and spiritual progress

The above mantra is a combination panchadashi and Maha Ganapathy.

Panchadashi burns the sins and karma of the chanter and Mahaganapathy mantra provides success and removes all types of obstacles.

The above mantra is truly power as you can experience changes within one month of beginning of the chanting.
It is ideal to chant 444 times a day.

The mantra can be used for various reasons but this mantra very helpful in giving 4 arthas. 

Some people say that this only for material benefits.  Which is true but the addition panchadashi to the makes it highly powerful tool for spiritual growth.

Maha Ganapati Mantra for Removing Problems

Best to chant the above mantra 1000 times a day.

One more best way to use this mantra is to sprinkle some water on Ganapati idol in the form of tarpanam.

That is chant above mantra and add the word "Tarpayami Namaha" at the end of mantra and sprinkle some water on the idol.

This can be done 444 times each day. If not possible do it at least 100 times daily. You can experience changes in 3 months of starting this sadhana.

For each Tarpayami Namaha sprinkle some water on the idol.

Before starting this process visualise the Lord Ganapati is entering the idol (meaning energy is entering into the idol).
Then after completion visualise that the energy is returning back into your body.

Collect the water that is sprinkled and drink some of it and use the remaining for bathing purpose next day. You can also distribute this water to your family.

This mantra is very useful to remove problems, problems related to muladhara chakra, gives material prosperity and health and security.

Ganapati mantra for removing obstacles and fulfilling wishes

The mantra given below has to be chanted 600000 times along with 60000 homa (fire sacrifice).

Very good to remove obstacles,  karya siddhi, acquiring wealth, immense wealth.

Intense meditation of one or more hour hours for a minimum of 6 months, is said to accord wealth for happy living.

Maintaining celibacy is very important.

Not involving in unnecessary talks and having focused mind for this period towards sadhana is important

Tarpana offering is beneficial ( chant the mantra and add the word TARPAYAMI at the along with allowing the water flow on your palm to the tip of fingers)

Om hreem dum durgayai namah

This mantra needs to chanted 8 lakhs times. This will avoid or solve problems from anyone. Even problems associated with government can be avoided.

Every day 5000 chants needs to be performed.

The effects can be seen within one month. After completing 8 lakhs. Every chant for 1000 times.

This is a simple bit very effective mantra.

Have a Durga devi photo infront of you which will help to contemplate on the form of the goddess.

Mahalakshmi mantra for immense wealth

One of the most important aspect in life is to have stability and security in terms of finances.

Todays world has become so materialistic that without money nothing is possible.

Money plays an important role in the spiritual pogress also. Lets face it unless we have sufficent money we cannot pursue our interests without any problems. Only when we do what we like, then it leads to happiness and peace. Over a period of time the mind turns towards spirituality.

But one thing that needs to kept in mind id that, we should only aspire for what is needed and not for what we want.

So the below mantra that im providing here is the best mantra for 
goddess Mahalakshmi.

The great goddess when sincerely prayed upon will shower the devotees with abundance.

Goddess Mahalakshmi is the nourisher of this world and when you need stabilty in life there is no other god than her.

The mantra is as follows:

This mantra chanted regularly for a minimum of 108 times daily, starts showing its effect within 30 days

I would personally recommend all to chant this mantra atleast 1000 times a day along with chanting of Sri Suktham.
This will surely bring a major change in ones life.

As per texts to acquire siddhi of this one should chant this 27 lakhs times (2700000)

Since navratri is in progress. It is the ideally time start practising this mantra.

Banesi Mantra for Marriage

The below mantra that I'm giving is meant for quick marriage. It is said that once the mantra chant is complete it takes only three months for marriage. The presiding deity of this mantra is Banesi.

The number of count to complete the cycle is 400000. Once complete chant another 40000 for fire sacrifice.

The mantra is as follows

Kali Mantra for Protection and Success

The below Kali Mantra is excellent for achieving success at any endeavor and usually for Karya Siddhi (getting work done).

Also it is important to know that Kali mantras have the tendency pre pone karmic events for a person, meaning these mantra usually make us to face our karma much earlier than we are supposed to face it, there by washes away our accumulated sins.

The mantra that I’m going to is a very popular one but the difference here that I will mention the method to energize this mantra effectively.

To energize, the mantra needs to be chanted 100000 times plus 10000 times in one days times (takes about 12 hrs of chanting). The chanting should start in the night time preferably.

Post energizing chant 10000 times daily (takes 1 hr) or a minimum of 1000 times (takes 6-7 mins) daily.

The person will experience changes within 10 – 30 days of completing this sadhana.

The Mantra is a single syllable letter KREEM, it has been mentioned in the texts that this can grant the aspirants supernatural powers if practiced regularly.

Anyone can use this mantra for Karya siddhi and protection from evil forces, spirits etc. Having purity of thought is essential for Kali sadhanas and use the gifts for good causes only.     

Multipurpose Hanuman Mantra

The below mantra that I’m going to give is used for various reasons, some of the uses are truly fascinating. The mantra is as follows

This mantra is taken from Mantra Mahodadhi and this text gives various uses of this mantra. I have listed down few important uses of this mantra below.

Complete 11000 chanting plus 1100 additional chanting of this mantra for energizing it

Once energized chant on daily basis for 108 times for relief from minor health issues

If the health issues are major then increase the same to 1000 per day

It can be used for settling disputes between two conflicting parties

It can be used to stop bad dream by chanting 108 times daily

Good for all round protection and increases courage

Ill placed planetary effects can be neutralized by chanting of the above mantra regularly for 1000 times per day

Even Black magic effects can be neutralized and problems associated with spirits

Khadgamala Stotra

The mantras pertaining to Sri Vidya are of foremost importance, as it has the power to cut off Karma and removes all sorts of sins. Hence one of the most advanced levels of Sri Vidya meditation is reciting of Khadgamala Stotra, even though this is called a stotra, it is infact a Mala Mantra with tremendous power. By mere chanting of the names given in the link below you can absolve all types of sins and acquire any thing we want. This is particularly good for those people who wants lead a material life as well as spiritual one.
This removes black magic effects, planetary ill effects, fear of enemies and thieves and many advantages are listed in the Phala Struti of this mantra. So do not take this lightly.

Gayatri Mantra for Infertility and Miscarriage

This mantra has to be used by both male and female and should be practiced together on Sunday morning's.
Chant the below mantra a minimum of 100 times (1000 will be great) visualizing Gayatri as male or female child and offer food to the god and eat the same food. This process needs to be continued till the child birth takes place.
